Baudouin Regout is senior fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute, McKinsey & Company's economics research arm, and an associate partner in McKinsey's Brussels office. He leads MGI's research on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and he co-leads McKinsey's relationship with European Union institutions.
His current research analyzes European consumer trends in light of aging populations, limited economic growth, strained pension systems, and increased migration flows. Other recent work has examined the European consumer in the context of the economic crisis as well as the potential impact of deleveraging in Europe.
Baudouin previously led MGI research on the U.S. "new economy," which analyzed the causes of the acceleration of U.S. productivity after 1995, including the contribution of innovation in information technology and telecommunications. The study included detailed analyses of various sectors, including retail, telecommunications, securities, semiconductors, and computer manufacturing. In addition, he co-led MGI research on the productivity performance of France and Germany, analyzing the impact of information technologies benchmarked against international best practices. Sectors surveyed include telecommunications, utilities, transportation, automotive, retail, and banking. He has also provided expertise to studies focusing on improving economic performance of Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, and Russia.
He previously served clients mainly in the investment banking industry, focusing on M&A, risk management, IT, and e-commerce.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Baudouin was employed by the M&A division of Bank Degroof in Brussels. Baudouin has a joint degree in engineering/economics from the Solvay Business School at the Brussels University, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
